GUIDELINES FOR USING THE INCINERATOR & RECYCLING FACILITY
  • All vehicles entering the Litchfield Incinerator and Recycling Facility must have a validated identification sticker affixed to the lower (passenger side) windshield.

  • Stickers are available without charge to the residents of the Town of Litchfield, New Hampshire, during regular business hours from the Town Clerk or the Facility Manager on duty at the Municipal Incinerator and Recycling Facility.

  • Rules are strictly enforced and failure to comply may result in revocation of identification sticker and other possible penalties.
INCINERATOR BUILDING
Only the following items may be placed in the Incinerator Collection Building:
  • Household refuse
  • Plastic items/containers (empty only)
  • Cardboard corrugated boxes and other paper board boxes (cereal, gift, egg).
  • Clothing
    note that good and reusable clothing may be recycled by donating to the Donation Collection Bins located at the Facility
 RECYCLING BUILDING
The following items may be deposited in the Recycling Building and should not be put in the Incinerator Building.
  • Glass – Place on the appropriately marked tables (All other glass related items should be placed in separate bins which are marked for these items. They include Light Bulbs, Drinking Glasses, China, Mirrors, Pyrex Wares, Ceramics, etc.)
  • Paper – Newspapers, Magazines, Junk Mail & Other waste papers. 
    Place Newspapers and the Inserts which came with the Newspapers (Comics, Advertising, etc).  Magazines, Junk Mail and other waste papers in the bin marked for Newspapers. All kinds of printed matter are commonly called "NORTH SHORE MIX".
  • Books – All paperback books and Hard Cover books should be placed on the "BOOK TABLE" for recycling (reading pleasure of others).  Town Residents may wish to check with the Town's Aaron Cutler Library to see if they may be interested in having them donated to the Library's permanent collection of reading materials, or to the Friends of the Library's Book Sale.
  • ALUMINUM & TIN CANS
    Place on the table marked for their collection; lids inside of cans.
  • CLEAN PACKING (POPCORN) MATERIAL.

  • ALL BATTERIES
    Automotive Batteries must be placed in Orange Bin, all others in marked barrel.

    DISPOSAL OF OTHER SOLID WASTE MATERIALS

    • Cat Litter – Deposit in the Bin located outside the Recycling Building.
    • Oil Filters – Deposit only in the designated bin outside the Incinerator Building.

    SEE FACILITY STAFF FOR THE DEPOSIT LOCATION OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS

    • Tires – Automotive, Motorcycle, Bicycle.
      (note) Truck and Tractor Tires will have a PER TIRE CHARGE.
    • Tree Branches – Lawn and Leaf refuse. Tree Branches may not exceed 5" in diameter.

    • Firewood, 24" Max Length – Stacked Neatly.

    • Junk Metals – All non-metal items/parts must be REMOVED BEFORE depositing
      Note: No items placed in the Metal Drop-off may exceed 5’ in length.

    • Toys – Bicycles, Wagons, Camping Stoves (without gas), Snowmobile & Motorcycle Frames.

    • Basement/Cellar Bulkheads – If broken down so they may be easily handled by the facility staff.

    • White Goods – Appliances of all kinds.

    • Tolls – Jog Saws, Lawn Mowers and Snow Blowers.

    • Contaminated Iron – Empty Oil Tanks, etc.

    • Closed Containers – Acetylene Tanks, Propane Tanks MUST BE EMPTY .

    • Wire – Box Springs, etc must be cut into manageable 3’ lengths.

    • Aluminum – Storm Windows, Screens, Shovels, TV Antennas, Tent Poles, Gutters, Lawn Chairs (without webbing), etc.

    • Cast Iron – Axe/Sledge Hammers, Gas (BBQ) Grills, Radiators, Sinks, Bathtubs, Auto Wheel Rims.

    • Brass – Bed Frames & Pipes.

    • Copper – Pipe & Fittings.

    • Construction Debris -2 TON Limit.
      Note: No brick, concrete, asphalt, cinder block, paint in cans or oil in cans may be placed within the Construction Debris Disposal area.

      UNACCEPTABLE MATERIALS

      1. HAZARDOUS WASTE MATERIALS
      • Medical or Infectious WASTE
      • Toxic Materials
      • Explosives
      2. INDUSTRIAL WASTE
      • Waste from any Business or Industry or From Manufacturing Companies.
      3. SLUDGE or MANURE
      • Septic Waste or Sludge from any Sewer or Drainage 
      4. CAR PARTS.
